William Grant Still Arts Center’s Dragon’s Flight Art Exhibition

The theme of the exhibition Dragon’s Flight is the transformative power of creating art, and the ability to reclaim and re-grow personal identity in the face of the negative trauma of incarceration through the creative process – exhibited artwork was created both inside prison and on the outside by artists including Victor Bono as well as the youth documentary Passing the Baton project . Curated in collaboration with ADELANTE, Art Release, AK Angels, Youth Justice Coalition, Critical Resistance, Sheila Pinkel, and the Old Timers.

Opening Concert and Resource Festival on 10/6 will feature organizations, live music from Kamau Daaood, Chicano Son, Rifleman, and Marcus Miller World Drum Ensemble, hosted by MC VerBS of Bananas. Other public programs, including performance by Patrisse Marie Cullors of her original piece STAINED: An Intimate Portrayal of State Violence (10/20), Dia de Los Muertos family art workshop (11/3), artist panel discussion (11/10), a health and wellness fair (11/17) will take place on Saturdays through November 24.
