Walk among Worlds, an installation by Máximo González at The Fowler Museum

When: Extended! Now on view through November 10, 2013

Location: Fowler Museum, UC Los Angeles

Walk among Worlds is a dramatic outdoor installation by Máximo González. Thousands of inflatable beach-ball globes appear to float up the walls of the Fowler’s Davis Courtyard and billow out the top. In this playful, immersive installation, the artist explores the effects of light and lightness, reflecting on world cultures and political divides.

González, an Argentine artist who lives and works in Mexico City, is best known for intricate collages and murals created with paper money. Other projects have incorporated different materials, including plastic household items, flea market finds, and other common goods. His work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Europe and the Americas, including Máximo González: Playful, Craft and Folk Art Museum, Los Angeles; Poetics of the Handmade, MOCA, Los Angeles; Transitions, Artpace San Antonio, San Antonio, Texas; Mexicanisimo, San Jose Museum of Art, San Jose, CA; The Tree: From the Sublime to the Social, Vancouver Art Gallery, Canada; Magnificent Warning, Rubin Center, El Paso, TX; and Tiempo de Sospecha, Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City. He is the founder of Changarrito Project.
