UCLA Art|Sci Gallery presents Seres: Inhabitants of the Land of Silk

when: 2014-10-02, starts at 5pm to 7pm
where: UCLA Art|Sci Gallery Room 5419, 5th floor CNSI (California Nanosystems Institute) UCLA, 570 Westwood Plaza, Los Angeles, CA 90095

This October, the UCLA Art|Sci Gallery presents Seres: Inhabitants of the Land of Silk, a unique exhibition which evokes the ancient human relationships that we have formed with silk worms, and now with bacteria as the “chassis” for the production of silk in the laboratory. A collaborative project, the Art|Sci Collective exhibits stories, books, images, and ideas about silk, presented alongside musings from a team of young scientists at UCLA’s International Genetically Engineered Machine labs and the artwork and live silkworms of culturalist and provocateur Jason Fahrion. The opening reception will be held on October 2nd, from 5-7 pm at the Art|Sci Gallery, with a LASER Symposium following from 7-9 pm. A link to the longer-form press release can be found here.
