Event with the MCASD and the La Jolla Playhouse

Magpie Collective (UCIRA Artists MR Barnadas & Tae Hwang + Participants) will present Migration:After Flight. Inspired by the spatial freedom suggested by tessellations. Migration:After Flight is a site-specific work that is both live construction and temporal performance. It involves the creation of a structure that is at once a sculpture, a work environment, and a theater that transforms and extends the space of the La Jolla Playhouse Theatre District.

Final Event: Will take place during WoW festival, presented by MCASD at La Jolla PLayhouse, there will be the final participatory event/ installation (Migration:After Flight) utilizing the constructed birds forms.

Workshop Information:

Collective Magpie cordially invites you to attend a construction workshop at held at the University of California San Diego and at MCASD.

Workshop participants will work with the artists to construct 3-dimensional bird forms from paper using staplers and simple folds. The resulting bird forms will be joined to create a single tessellating formation of thousands during the Without Walls Festival on October 3.

No special skills required. Participants are welcome to create additional bird forms to take with them.

Final Event Information:

Invited by MCASD, Collective Magpie (MR Barnadas & Tae Hwang + Participants) will present, Migration: After Flight at the Without Walls Festival this October 3rd.

Migration :After Flight involves the creation of a structure that is at once a sculpture, a work environment, and a theater that transforms and extends the space of the La Jolla Playhouse Theatre District.

The inaugural Without Walls (WOW) Festival takes place Thursday, October 3 through Sunday, October 6. This one-of-a-kind festival will showcase events in and around the Playhouse Theatre District with performances presented by the Playhouse, MCASD, and UC San Diego’s departments of Theatre & Dance and Music.
