Upcoming events with UCIRA Artist Elizabeth Stephens (UCSC Professor) and her partner, artist Annie Sprinkle

UC Santa Cruz Professor Elizabeth Stephens and her partner, artist Annie Sprinkle, have been picked up by Jancar Gallery in Los Angeles, where they will have a survey exhibition in January 2013. To kick off this new relationship, they are doing a free SexEcological Walking Tour of Chinatown right after the College Art Association, Sunday, February 26, 1:00-3:00. Adults only. Rain or shine.

At CAA Stephens & Sprinkle will be part of the Women’s Caucus for the Arts Panel, Multiplicities in Dialogue: From Political Caucus to Engaged Community, On Feb 24, 9:30 am, sharing their work and experiences with collaboration. see for more.

The Stephens/Sprinkle team have created a new field of research, “SexEcology”,  which explores the places were sexology and ecology intersect, in art, theory, practice and activism.  Their new web site launches on Valentine’s Day.

Stephens & Sprinkle captured the media spotlight last week, including being on the Cover of the SF Chronicle, when they started a neighborhood action group, Occupy Bernal, in San Francisco’s Bernal Heights where they live. The group is helping their neighbors stay in their homes in the face of foreclosure due to predatory bank loans. 85 homes are threatened in their community.  They are currently planning creative actions to help bring attention to this crisis and to try to stop it.

In a related event, Stephens & Sprinkle will be featured guests at and amazing, Occupy the Truth– The Whistle Blower’s Conference,  next week- Feb 17-19 at UC Berkeley’s International House.   Reverend Billy Talen, Daniel Ellsberg, prankster Joey Skaggs, sex worker activist Scarlot Harlot, and lot of other great folks from academica, the media, Occupy, and more are going to be there!!! Open source conference technology will be used.
