The UCSB Department of Music presents Montage: A Celebration of Genres, Friday, April 11th, 2014

The UCSB Department of Music comes together in a riot of performance styles and compositional combinations.

Montage: A Celebration of Genres

Date: Friday, April 11th, 7:30pm

Location: Lotte Lehmann Concert Hall, UC Santa Barbara

$10 General Admission/$5 Students

Artistic Director of Montage and Chair of the Department of Music Jill Felber claims Montage will be “a first-of-its-kind concert at UCSB, brought about by the collaboration of all areas of musical performance at the university. It will feature solo and ensembles from various foci of the music department in a celebration of genres.”

Throughout the 90-minute program, attendees will hear everything from Rachmaninoff to Vivaldi, interrupted by a parading Afro-Brazilian ensemble, a surge of clarinets, and a cluster of small ensembles filling up the concert hall with their own renditions and interpretations of old classics and fresh compositions. These short segments will seamlessly switch from one to the next – jazz to ethno to classical to chamber – and include music written for small groups and large ensembles.

Planned as part of the Graduate Student Appreciation Week, this event will highlight current and former graduate students in jazz, ethnomusicology, classical music, chamber music, early music and large ensemble.

This “not-to-be-missed” event will be sure to invigorate and inspire both long-time fans and first-time concert-goers.
