The Corwin Chair Music Series continues with Kiyomitsu Odai.
The Corwin Music Chair presents Kiyomitsu Odai in a lecture on his interdisciplinary approaches to composition.

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014
The World Music Series presents a special performance celebrating the 50th anniversary of INTA `UMRI
The song, Inta `Umri, is said to be the most famous Arab music song of the 20th century. Performed by the superstar Egyptian singer, Umm Kulthum, and composed by the superstar composer, Muhammad `Abd al-Wahhab, the song premiered on Feb. 6, 1964. The UCSB Middle East Ensemble marks the song’s 50th anniversary with a performance featuring Melanie Hutton, solo vocalist.

The Winter Spotlight
Occurring alternate Wednesdays throughout Winter Quarter, the Winter Spotlight aims to shine a light on students in music performance. This week, students perform pieces by Debussy, Beethoven and more!

Thursday, February 6th, 2014
String Master Class with Venice Baroque Orchestra
Don’t miss a master class performance that includes pieces by Bach and Haydn. Larissa Fedoryka will play Suite No. 3 in C Major, Prelude and Allemande on cello. Bach Partita No. 2 BWV 1004 and Chaconne will be performed by Jordan Warmath on viola. And the duo of Karen Yeh on cello and Natasha Kislenko on piano will wrap up with Haydn Cello Concerto No. 2 in D Major and Allegro moderato.

Middle East Ensemble performs at 1st Thursday
1st Thursday is an award winning program highlighting downtown arts, culture and entertainment on the first Thursday of every month. All 1st Thursday attractions are free from 5-8pm.
The UCSB Middle East Ensemble (MEE) is an official “Ethnomusicology Performance Ensemble” in the UCSB Music Department. Founded in 1989 by ethnomusicology professor Scott Marcus, the ensemble has performed widely throughout California.
