David Gere: Taking Action: Arts Practice and Community Change

David Gere (Los Angeles / World Arts and Cultures) Faculty

This course proposes to instruct UCLA undergraduate students in the use of art for social activism, providing hands-on opportunity for students to reach out to the greater Los Angeles Community. This course will require students to apply theoretical training through a service arts-education project, comprising part of AMP it up!, an arts-based AIDS education program being piloted in LAUSD high schools. Students will create a participatory art-action curriculum and apply it within a high school over the quarter.
