Robert Glasper Experiment plus special guests José James, Taylor McFerrin and Austin Peralta come to UC Los Angeles

When: Thursday, October 25, 2012, 8:00pm-10:00pm
Location: Royce Hall Auditorium, UC Los Angeles

Tickets: $15 – $35 (FREE for UCLA Students)

Prolific pianist, composer and producer Robert Glasper has made a number of traditional jazz albums with his trio, but on this year’s revolutionary Black Radio, he surrounds the gorgeous acoustic sounds of his piano with synths, percussion and some fascinating guests such as vocalist Erykah Badu and Yasiin Bey (Mos Def ). Associations with multiple hip-hop and R&B artists have long run parallel to Glasper’s emerging jazz career. Glasper’s music can best be described as explorations of chordal texture with space and rhythm, creating a lush tapestry of sound. Glasper has said tries to make music flow in a hip-hop-like beat—primed for a rapper to join in at any moment. The evening also includes the slickly soulful José James performing with Bobby McFerrin’s son, Taylor McFerrin. L.A.’s own keyboard upstart Austin Peralta opens. Get ready to groove.
