Renee Tajima-Pena: No Mas Bebes Por Vida Interactive

Renee Tajima-Pena (UC Santa Cruz): $10,000 for No Mas Bebes Por Vida Interactive. Visual Arts Practice and Research

No Más Bebés Por Vida Interactive is a web-native documentary and digital archive that maps histories of racialized sterilization practices in California, the United States and abroad. It is a part of a transmedia project that investigates the history of Mexican-origin women who were coercively sterilized at the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center (LAC+USC) during the late 1960s and 70s. No Más Bebés Por Vida is a story of blatant injustice, uncommon courage, and activism. It shows how a group of mothers, young Chicano/a lawyers and activists, and a whistle-blowing doctor stood up to powerful institutions, faced public exposure, and risked their careers in the name of justice.
