“Memento Mori”: Group Exhibition Call

In addition to the August 2011 featured exhibition “Prey” by Leilani Bustamante (www.leilanibustamante.com), Modern Eden Gallery will be hosting a group show entitled “Memento Mori”. Memento mori is a Latin phrase translated as “Remember your mortality”, “Remember you must die” or “Remember you will die” It names a genre of artistic work which varies widely, but which all share the same purpose: to remind people of their own mortality. The phrase has a tradition in art that dates back to antiquity (thanks, Wikipedia!). For inspiration, check out Leilani Bustamante’s website and research the genre of Memento Mori art if you are unfamiliar.

SIZE RESTRAINTS: exactly 10×10inches. 10×10 is the outer-most dimension, including the frame, mat, etc., Pieces can be 3-Dimensional as long as they are wall-hung and 10×10. All pieces must be wired, ready to hang, and dry before dropping off. Please, no diagonal hanging. 1 piece per artist.

SHIPPING: If you are shipping your art and would like us to return your piece in the event it does not sell, please include a pre-paid shipping label with your artwork along with the necessary paperwork to be received on or before the drop-off deadline (August 13th). Please ship to: Modern Eden Gallery, 403 Francisco Street, San Francisco, CA 94133

DEADLINES: If you would like to participate, please e-mail us at info@moderneden.com by August 1, 2011. Please note that our shows usually fill up quickly and space is limited. The sooner you contact us, the better your chance is that there will be space to exhibit. As always, local San Francisco (+ Bay Area) artists will receive priority.

If you are a new exhibiting artist, please send either a JPEG or a link to images of the piece you would like to exhibit or a sampling of your previous work which can serve as a close example of what to expect. Please do not assume you are in the show, you will need to receive a confirmation e-mail from a gallery representative after you send images/link.

*When deciding whether to submit, please take a look at Modern Eden’s website (www.moderneden.com) for a good indication of our aesthetic.

Drop off DEADLINE August 13th (anytime before works too) for Opening Reception on August 20th, 2011.

Mark your calendars, this show is going to be amazing!!!

If you have any questions, feel free to call/e-mail the gallery. Thank you!
