Local Treasures: Bay Area Ceramics

Date & Time: Saturday, Saturday, September 22 – November 18, 2012
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 22, 5-8pm
Location: Berkeley Art Center, UC Berkeley

Local Treasures, a bi-annual exhibition series started in 2010, features artists who have had a significant impact in the artistic fabric of this community. An array of masterful and mysterious works in clay, the exhibition presents a compelling individualistic and authentic approach to the medium as expressed in the work of these accomplished artists.

Co-curated by Richard Whittaker of works & conversations, this year’s exhibition will have a special focus on Bay Area Ceramics and include the work of Clayton Bailey, Viola Frey, Ted Fullwood, Jon Gariepy, Mary Law, Annabeth Rosen, Nancy Selvin, Richard Shaw, Sandy Simon, John Toki, and Wanxin Zhang. The exhibition will also serve as a platform for a community-wide open house celebration of Berkeley Art Center’s 45th anniversary, as well as the official unveiling of Berkeley Art Center’s new sculpture patio featuring seminal works by Harold Paris, Peter Voulkos, and Stephen DeStaebler. A full color catalog with a lead essay by Nancy Servis will accompany the exhibition.
