Two-­time  Grammy  nominee,  composer,  and  tabla  virtuoso  Sandeep  Das  will  offer  two  presentations  on Thursday,  December  5,  2013.  The  first  (2:00-­3:20pm)  will  begin  with  a  brief  introduction  to  his instrument,  the  tabla,  and  rhythmic  material  in  Hindustani  classical  music.  It  will  be  followed  by  a discussion  of  his  music  and  work  as  a  core  member  of  The  Silk  Road  Ensemble  and  founder  of  HUM, both  of  which  address  issues  of  entrepreneurship  within  the  arts  on  a  global  scale.  A  second,  informal workshop  (4:00-­5:00pm)  examining  in  further  depth  the  tabla  and  rhythmic  cycles  in  North  Indian classical  music  will  follow.

A  screening  of  the  documentary  film  Live  from  Tanglewood  featuring  The  Silk  Road  Ensemble  with Yo-­Yo  Ma,  directed  by  award-­winning  documentary  filmmaker  Morgan  Neville  (20  Feet  from Stardom),  and  released  by  Sony  Masterworks  in  September  2013  is  scheduled  for  the  evening (5:30pm).  Mr.  Das  and  Mr.  Neville  will  join  as  guest  presenters  of  the  documentary  for  a  pre-­screening introduction.  The  approximate  running  time  for  the  documentary  is  80  minutes.
