Davis residents of all ages are invited to join Dance Dance Davis, a community project presented by the UC Davis Institute for Exploration in Theatre, Dance and Performance (ITDP) and organized by Shelly Gilbride, Ph.D., UC Davis Theatre and Dance alumna and local arts consultant and dancer. Gilbride seeks to recruit at least 100 Davisites to celebrate the joy of dancing and the adventurous spirit of Davis, which will culminate with a flashmob-style dance performance at a surprise Davis location on May 9 at 6:15 p.m. The event, as well as dance lessons leading up to it, is free of charge.

Gilbride is now soliciting dance steps to be featured in the flashmob choreography through local dance classes. Interested community members may attend classes at the Davis Art Center on Wednesday, April 25 at 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 2 at 8:30 p.m., Saturday, May 5 at 4 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 at 1 p.m. UC Davis students may also attend on-campus classes on either Monday April 30, 6 to 8 p.m. at the University Club dance studio or Tuesday May 1, 7-8:30 p.m. in Hickey Gym. The choreography will be fun and easy for all, regardless of experience, to learn in one hour. The dance will also be uploaded to the Dance Dance Davis Facebook page so that participants may learn it at home. All information about the event including required May 9 performance registration and the Facebook link can be found at
