08/20/2012 – 09/15/2012

America’s prestigious contemporary dance companies Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and Alonzo King LINES Ballet will be in-residence at UC Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts Dance Department this summer and offering two (2) week-long intensive dance workshops Aug. 20-31 for advanced dance students, pre-professionals, and professionals that would like to further their careers. Tuition for each workshop is $450, payable to UC Regents.

Enrollees will work with Hubbard Street directors and company dancers from Hubbard Street and LINES Ballet. They will also have the opportunity to observe renowned dancer Alonzo King’s creative process and watch his rehearsals. During each of the weeklong intensives, students will work together for six hours a day, five days a week. The program will offer training in ballet and modern technique, repertory, improvisation and discussions. Students train and perform under the guidance of artistic directors and professional dancers from each company. Class level will be determined by age and experience on the intensive’s first day of classes.

In addition to the workshops, supplemental activities may include attending open rehearsals with dancers and the company’s artistic directors; attending performance receptions and meeting the company dancers, having an opportunity to meet with directors and attend an informal showing at the conclusion of the choreographic residency; and purchasing tickets to the two performances at the Laguna Dance Festival in September that include these two comapnies.

Applications will be taken online through June 1, 2012. A non-refundable fee of $20 is required upon submitting an application, as are a resume with proof of advanced traning and a Letter of Recommendation from a dance school, instructor or artistic director. Upon acceptance, participants will be asked to submit 50% of the workshop fee as a deposit; the balance is payable by June 30, 2012. All fees are payable to UC Regents.
