The Herb Alpert Foundation and the California State Summer School for the Arts in Valencia have announced the recipients of the 2013 Herb Alpert Scholarships for Emerging Young Artists.

Each year, the Alpert Foundation supports a top CSSSA student in seven disciplines — dance, music, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, film, and animation — with a four-year commitment totaling $40,000 for study at the university level. In addition, two other students from each discipline receive a one-time scholarship of $2,500. CSSSA provides the winning students with an opportunity to spend one month immersed in a creative laboratory experiencing the daily life of a professional artist, as well as three units of course credit from Cal State.

“The Herb Alpert Scholarships for Emerging Young Artists, administered by CSSSA, are the perfect synergy of recognition, financial support, higher education in the arts, and intention to promote a standard of artistic excellence,” said Herb Alpert Foundation president Rona Sebastian. “The program’s success has encouraged CalArts to expand scholarship opportunities for CSSSA students as well. I am gratified to see how support has leveraged additional funding for the benefit of these highly talented and motivated students.”
