Heather Rastovac: UC Berkeley Residency featuring Amir Baradaran

Heather Rastovac (UC Berkeley): $750 for UC Berkeley Residency featuring Amir Baradaran. Co-Sponsorship

This UC Berkeley residency (Nov 10 – 16, 2012) will consist of a public lecture entitled FutARism: The Possibilities of Augmented Reality in Art Making and a public performance installation/live sculpture entitled Marry Me to the End of Love, both of which will feature the new media performance artist Amir Baradaran and his multidimensional theoretical art practice. Featuring Baradaran in both a lecture and a performance will highlight the relationship between theory and practice inherent to his work. Baradaran’s residency will involve interdisciplinary conversations between UC Berkeley faculty and graduate students regarding the ways in which participatory performance and new media art practice offer a performative space for critical speculations on the body, virtuality, curatorial authorship, and gendered/racialized identities. In addition to Baradaran’s lecture and performance, there will be a working group meeting where participants will read scholarly texts that Baradaran has suggested as critical to his artistic work. This working group meeting will involve a dialogue between Amir Baradaran and students involved in Performance Studies Research Collective, Muslim Cultures and Identities Working Group, New Media Working Group, and interested students from Gender & Women Studies, Ethnic Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, Film Studies, and Art Practice.
