Jenifer Wofford & Lucy Mae San Pablo Burns: Galleon Trade

Jenifer Wofford (Berkeley, Art Practice) & Lucy Mae San Pablo Burns (Los Angeles, Asian American Studies and World Arts & Cultures) Graduate

Galleon Trade is an exchange exhibition of artists with ties to the Philippines, Mexico, and California. Galleon Trade was hosted by the three nonprofit Mag:Net galleries in Metro Manila Philippines. Taking the historic Acapulco-Manila galleon route as its metaphor of origin, this exhibition created new routes of cultural exchange along old routes of commerce and trade.

The exchange/”trade” aspect of the project is not simply putting art on exhibit: more critically, it’s in the commitment of these artists to go to Manila to foster arts friendships and professional alliances beyond exhibitions.
