Job Summary:
We are seeking a talented and motivated individual with diverse experience in academic research and program administration to join the UC Humanities Research Institute. The Manager for Research Projects will be responsible for managing UCHRI’s Residential Research Groups as well as special research programs for UCHRI and the UC Humanities Network (including the current Mellon-­‐funded initiative on the Humanities and Changing Conceptions of Work), coordinating campus and public events stemming from these research programs, assisting with research development and external fundraising efforts, and providing general research and editorial support.

The Manager of Research Projects works closely with the Directors and staff to conceptualize, and implement the Institute’s research programs and events and to deliver high quality programming in the humanities both on campus and in the greater community.

Candidate should have demonstrated experience developing and administering programs, events, and/or collaborative projects, preferably in a higher education setting; solid grounding in the principles and practices of advanced research in the humanities; strong oral and written communications skills; and experience working with a diverse campus constituency, including faculty, students, staff and senior administrators.

Candidate needs to be passionate about the humanities and able to think strategically about humanities research and programming in order to advance the mission of UCHRI and the UC Humanities Network. Job Essential Function 1
Percent of Time: 40.0%
Provide programming and administrative management for core and special research initiatives for UCHRI and the UC Humanities Network, including Residential Research Groups (RRGs), the Humanities and Changing Conceptions of Work, and others as needed.
Provide project management and strategic planning for research initiatives, including developing timelines, work plans, budgets, and internal communications to ensure project goals and outcomes are met.
Serve as primary administrative interface with participating faculty and graduate scholars as well as with humanities center directors, administrators and other UC Humanities Network partners. Coordinate with program officer to run funding competitions, produce CFPs, track submissions and oversee selection processes for RRGs and special research initiatives.
Work with associate director and communications coordinator to develop and produce external communications and publicity for research programs and affiliated participants.

Job Essential Function 2
Percent of Time: 30.0%
Manage all aspects of special event production for UCHRI, including public workshops, webinars, conferences and other events for the RRGs, the Humanities and Work initiative, and other special projects.
Serve as UCHRI’s administrative/planning liaison to the annual Society of Fellows meeting. Coordinate logistics and provide administrative support for events, including arranging space and catering, processing of honoraria, and travel-­‐related expenses; arranging transportation, accommodations, and meals for event or program participants, as necessary.

Job Essential Function 3
Percent of Time: 15.0%
Work with Director and Associate Director to provide research, writing and administrative support for UCHRI’s external development strategy.
Develop proposal archive for major humanities funding competitions (UC and external).
Coordinate grant writing workshops, proposal archive, and other research development resources and events for UC humanities scholars.
Work with research development professionals and grant administrators at UC campuses and beyond to develop and ensure best practices in grant development and management for UCHRI and UCHN.

Job Essential Function 4
Percent of Time: 15.0%
Provide research support for UCHRI director, including bibliographic searches, Google searches for data, archival image searching, indexing and manuscript preparation, including editing and proofreading. Provide onsite administrative and research support for RRGs.
Provide research, writing and editorial support for special UCHRI projects, as needed, to produce reports on research productivity, graduate training, assessment, and other humanities-­‐related topics.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Required:
Advanced degree in humanities, arts or interpretive social sciences.
Have superior research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-­‐project, deadline driven environment.
Proven ability to work independently with little supervision.
Demonstrated ability to manage multi-­‐faceted programs and projects.
Have strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated ability to effectively tap your own specialist knowledge and network to contribute ideas.

Desired:
Demonstrated experience working with faculty, administrators and diverse public.
Grant writing or fundraising experience, especially in an academic context.
New media experience, including Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter.
Be flexible, which is vital, as this is a distributed team environment.
Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing duties and projects.
Strong ability to follow-­‐through.

Will Train:
Knowledge of new media.
Knowledge of PAL, University’s purchasing card system.
