Darryl Taylor: Recording 12 Solo Cantatas by Rosanna Scalfi Marcello

Darryl Taylor (UCI) (Performance Practice and Research): $5,000.00 for Recording 12 Solo Cantatas by Rosanna Scalfi Marcello.

I will record 12 solo cantatas by Rosanna Scalfi Marcello (b. 1704 or 1705 – after 1742), her only surviving music. As wife of the more celebrated baroque composer, Benedetto Marcello (1686 – 1739), she was noted for her remarkable singing voice, and she studied composition with the man who was to become her husband. Many female composers of the time period were historically overlooked, if not banned from writing. This is a first recording of any music by her.
