Are you uncomfortable putting a financial value on your work? Is it difficult for you to talk with clients, vendors and suppliers? Do you have trouble asking for what you want?
This two-part workshop will give you tools and tactics to use when negotiating for yourself in your life and in your arts business! Participants will leave the sessions with the confidence to ask for what they want and the skills to get it.
You’ll explore various methods and tactics through interactive exercises and role-plays where you will learn what, when, how and with whom to negotiate. This workshop will take place over two 3-hour sessions and will cover the following topics:
+ Becoming familiar with the different types of negotiation methods and when to use them
+ Understanding positions versus interests
+ Setting targets / pricing
+ Making and responding to offers
+ How and when to make concessions
+ Avoiding miscommunication
+ Time factors
+ Framing your proposals
+ When to walk away
+ Useful negotiating tactics and counter-tactics
The session will be led by Nancy James Fox, former CEO of the Museum of Latin American Art. Fox is currently a consultant in the areas of fundraising, PR, communications and marketing for non-profit arts organizations .
