Carolyn Chen: Hoods: a chamber opera about women, wolves, and war

Carolyn Chen (UC San Diego): $3,350.00 for Hoods: a chamber opera about women, wolves, and war

Hoods is a concert-length chamber opera based on Euripides’ Hecuba and Little Red Riding Hood, parallel stories of women in extremis. Setting myth and fairytale in the context of late empire and perpetual war, the opera explores themes of violence, gender, and metamorphosis, as recordings of animals and helicopters subtly modulate and harmonize with live performers playing chamber music reminiscent of Monteverdi and shape note songs.
