The Lives of Giants

Sophiline Cheam Shapiro, Artistic Director and Choreographer

“A gorgeous spectacle… Shapiro’s journey unfolds like a moving painting. Exquisite.” The New York Times

More than 36 elaborately adorned dancers and musicians perform a “mesmerizing” (Los Angeles Times) tale drawn from the Reamker – the Cambodian version of the Ramayana, an ancient Sanskrit epic – in the breathtaking The Lives of Giants. Inspired equally by mythology and contemporary global politics, neoclassical choreographer Sophiline Cheam Shapiro’s sublimely regal allegory is a groundbreaking reflection of her country’s turbulent past.

Available on the World Music Series.
