Second Annual Barrier 2 Bridge Border Conference and Celebration

February 21-22, 2013

Yuma/San Luis, Arizona & San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora

The School of Transborder Studies, Arizona State University; the Department of International Programs, Arizona Western College; and the San Luis Corporation for the Arts & Humanities announce a conference to explore the US/Mexico border.

Thursday, February 21, 2013: Border Culture: Arts and the Media

Presentations exploring artistic and cultural contributions of Border
residents, the impacts of Border arts and culture on the mainstream
cultures of the United States and Mexico, and artistic works relating to
the USA/Mexico Border region.

Friday, February 22, 2013: Bi-Culture Kids: From a Confluence of

Presentations examining Cross Culture Kids, their experiences, problems,
perspectives, and advantages in a global culture. Focus on immigrant
children, assimilation and cultural dissonance, issues facing kids who
return to their native cultures, and the impacts cross culture kids are
having on the mainstream cultures of the United States and Mexico.
presentations addressing the question of the emergence of a true third
culture on the USA/Mexico Border would be welcome.

The conference will consider all submissions which address the general
topics of Border Culture and Arts, and Cross Culture Kids. Submissions
should be relatable to concerns and issues affecting the USA/Mexico
Border Region.

SUBMISSIONS: Proposals must be received by September 15, 2012. The
Conference Program Committee will respond by October 15, 2012.
Presenters will need to register for the conference by November 30,
2012. On-line registration will open on October 15, 2012.
