CALL FOR PROJECTS/PROPOSALS- SOMETHING FROM NOTHING– DUE MARCH 8

SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: AUDACIOUS SPECULATIONS IN ART, SCIENCE & ENTREPRENEURIALISM

Deadline for proposals: 03-8-2013

Is your research so creative or ambitious that people roll their eyes in disbelief? Are you a scientist who thinks like an artist? Are you an entrepreneur who thinks like a wizard? An engineer who thinks like a magician? An artist who thinks like a scientist who thinks like a poet? Are you somewhere in between or beyond such definitions?

UCSD’s Sixth College is hosting an event at CalIT2 Auditorium on April 12 that showcases how people make SOMETHING FROM NOTHING: how researchers, artists and entrepreneurs transform AUDACIOUS SPECULATIONS into reality.

The evening will consist of a series of performative presentations on existing or speculative work such as:
–entrepreneurial ventures that are spectacularly audacious
–activist projects that transform the socio-political landscape
–scientific research or experiments that are particularly poetic or speculative
–apps, inventions or product designs that will change the world
–solutions to apparently insoluble dilemmas whether medical, financial, engineering or aesthetic
–projects that highlight the aesthetics of research

Most presentations will be 5 minutes maximum; videos and/or powerpoint presentations (automatically advancing slides preferred).

Proposals should include:
-Powerpoint presentation (including images and script/text) or video
-Bios of project participants (max 300 words)
-Project description (250-500 words)

Questions?: email AudaciousSpeculations@gmail.com

NOTE: Images will be selected from the proposals for exhibition in ARTifact Gallery at Sixth College, UC San Diego.
