California Community Foundation Invites Applications for Los Angeles Visual Artists Fellowships

The California Community Foundation seeks to award one-year fellowships to outstanding emerging and mid-career Los Angeles County artists working in the visual arts. The fellowships are designed to enable artists to advance to the next level of professional development.

The fellowships provide unrestricted grants of $15,000 to emerging artists (four awards) and $20,000 each to mid-career artists (eleven awards). Awards may be spent according to the greatest need of the artist. Fellows will also participate in a special retreat designed to build an artist community and strengthen business and other professional development skills

Applicants in the emerging artist category will have up to seven years of professional experience in their field and have been full-time residents of Los Angeles County for the last three consecutive years or more. Artists in the mid-career category will have seven or more years of active professional experience and have been full-time residents of Los Angeles County for the last five consecutive years or more.

Awards will be based on the following criteria: artistic quality and merit; past artistic accomplishments; impact of the fellowship on the artist’s career; work that is representative of the Los Angeles area’s diverse communities, including those defined by ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, economic circumstances, or geographic location; and the artist’s contributions to the cultural vitality of Los Angeles.

Fellowship guidelines, application procedures, and FAQs are available at the California Community Foundation Web site.
