Artist Call – Visions of the Wild

For Northern CA artists

Northern California artists are invited to submit work for a juried exhibition on the theme of Visions of the Wild, held in conjunction with the Visions of the Wild Festival in Vallejo, California in celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act. The exhibition, sponsored by the Vallejo Community Arts Foundation is September 3 – November 8, 2014 and will be presented at the Temple Art Lofts gallery in the heart of the Arts & Entertainment. The opening reception is Friday, September 5, 5:30 – 7:30 pm.

Painting, Sculpture, Mixed Media or Photography will be accepted; Original artwork only. All 2-D work must be ready for hanging and sculpture must be suitable for display on pedestals or ready for hanging if it is to be wall mounted.

Artwork can be representational or abstract. In keeping with the intention of the Visions of the Wild Festival – connecting people to nature and wildness through various forms of cultural expression – interpretation of the exhibition theme can include:

-what “wilderness” means in diverse cultural contexts.
-how wilderness is expressed through art.
-what an urban wilderness looks like.
-how we can “re-wild” our humanized landscapes.
-how our understandings of wilderness and wilderness conservation paradigms will change in an era of global environmental change.

Inducted as a Plein Air Painters of America Signature Member in 2013 Sexton has been acknowledged by artists, collectors, and jurors alike and has garnered many awards for his paintings.
