Artist Call: SOMArts: The Commons Curatorial Residency Exhibitions in 2014

For SF Bay Area artists.

SOMArts Cultural Center invites you to deepen your relationship with us and expand your creative practice by submitting a proposal to The Commons Curatorial Residency Program. If you are not personally interested in applying, please assist SOMArts in garnering a robust set of proposals by forwarding this notice to your respective communities.

Artists, independent curators and arts organizations presenting contemporary work in any medium may apply. Full information about the submission process can be found here: http://www.somarts.org/exhibitions/submissions/

The proposal period for 2014 exhibitions is open Monday, October 1st through Tuesday, October 30th, 2012 at 11:59pm. Applicants invited to submit a full application will be notified in mid-November.

Financial support provided by The Commons Curatorial Residency enables artists to continue their professional development, form new collaborative partnerships, and engage community residents through programming that serves the mission of SOMArts: to promote and nurture art on the community level and foster an appreciation of and respect for all cultures.

Artists/curators selected for exhibition funding receive project grants up to $3,000, exhibition space in the SOMArts Main Gallery, installation, technical and event production support, and community engagement/public relations support valued at $23,000.

Four residencies are awarded each season and are designed to support emerging and midR08;career artists, as well as artists exploring new and challenging ideas.

There are multiple opportunities to learn about The Commons Curatorial Residency and to tour the gallery space before the Letter of Intent is due (see below). We look forward to receiving your proposal!
