Artist Call- Paint. Paper. Potter. Poe – “Oh So Poe: The Show”

Deadline: 09-26-2012

For Northern CA artists

Were I called on to define, very briefly, the term Art, I should call it ‘the reproduction of what the Senses perceive in Nature through the veil of the soul. - Edgar Allan Poe

Edgar Allan Poe, America’s master of mystery, the macabre and more, inspired many celebrated artists from his time and onward, including Gauguin, Redon, Manet, Matisse, Magritte, and Motherwell.

Poe will be the author studied and celebrated during Yuba-Sutter’s second participation in The Big Read, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. To create a visible complement to the program, the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council, which is the grantee and organizer of The Big Read here, is inviting local artists to submit their own works inspired by a Poe poem, short story or theme.

Juried entries will be included in the group show, “Oh So Poe: The Show,” at the Arts Council Gallery, 624 E Street, beginning Sunday, September 30. An artists’ reception that day at 3pm, open to the public, will kick off The Big Read season with readings, refreshments and a first look at the gallery show.

The entry fee is $5 per work of art. Art pieces, fees and entry forms, which will include the artist indicating her or his favorite Poe work and how it inspired the art, will be accepted at the Arts Council office on Tuesday, Sept. 25 and Wednesday Sept. 26 from noon to 4 pm. to make other arrangements, please contact the Arts Council office at 530.742.2787 or Deadline for submission is Wednesday, September 26, 4 pm.
