Artist Call- Napa ARTwalk Public Sculpture Tour

Launched in 2010, the Napa ARTwalk is a rotating, temporary, outdoor sculpture exhibition showcasing a variety of three-dimensional artwork throughout Downtown Napa. Featuring a new theme each exhibition, the ARTwalk supports the creation of original, high-quality and collaborative sculpture from regional artists. The tour also acts as an educational vehicle for understanding and appreciating the power of public art in our community: by way of QR (“quick read”) code technology, the ARTwalk features an audio tour, accessible any time of day. QR codes are featured both on the program’s brochure and on plaques mounted to each sculpture’s platform. Each scan code calls up information about the artist’s sculpture and website.

The 2013-15 Napa ARTwalk (www.napaartwalk.org) theme will be “Metamorphosis: At the Start, Consider the Finish”, featuring sculptures that honor the cyclical nature of life. Change is integral to existence, as are recurrent patterns such as growth and dormancy, birth and death, expansion and decline. The four seasons, life cycles and concepts of transformation, evolution and metamorphosis have served as inspiration for art, music and literature throughout history. With hopes of expanded artist participation, the ARTwalk is now seeking to increase the public art on display, and is looking for up to 15 pieces for the 2013 exhibition. This is an increase of five sculptures from the inaugural exhibition.
