The University of California Institute for Research in the Arts supports embedded arts research through critical exchange

Artist Call- Interfaith Artwork for Exhibition and Auction

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Center for the Arts, Religion and Education (CARE), and the 50th anniversary of the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), artists are invited to submit work that represents and supports the interfaith mission of the GTU.


Selected art will be exhibited and placed in a silent auction at the Graduate Theological Union’s 50th anniversary celebration in November 2012. Artists will receive the first $200 of the winning auction bid for their artwork and any remaining proceeds will directly benefit CARE and the GTU.


The call for work is open to any artist whose work represents images of interfaith belief and practice and reflects the mission and scope of the GTU. See: for more information about the faith traditions and areas of study at the GTU.

Eligible Media

Artwork to be considered may include two-dimensional framed works on paper, canvas, or board, oil or acrylic paintings, photographs, lithograph or digital prints, drawings, collage, and mixed media. Works will be displayed on tabletop easels; therefore, artwork dimensions should be no larger than 24″ x 36″.

What to Submit

The work will be juried by jpeg images submitted on a CD. Artists may submit a maximum of 5 images. Each CD must be labeled with the artist’s name and
accompanied by a typed image list including the artwork’s title, medium, date, and dimensions. Digital images must be numbered to correspond with the artwork information list. Please note that the artists selected for exhibition and auction are responsible for direct shipment of their artwork to the San Francisco Bay Area.
