Pinay and Southeast Asian Women in the Arts
Submission Deadline: Thursday, May 1, 2014 11:59pm pst
Notification of acceptance: Thursday, May 8, 2014 11:59pm pst
Exhibition Premise:
I am not a victim. I am a revolution. inspires to create a space for Southeast Asian Women and Pinay artists to promote and showcase our creative work to start a dialogue about our invisibility in the mainstream art world. Even in the appropriation of Asian American Art the representation and inclusion of Southeast Asians and Filipin@s are missing especially the voices of women. This show will attempt to address institutional, interpersonal and internalized limitations that have caused our continued marginalization in the larger white supremacist, patriarchal, capitalist, heteronormative, ableist society which continues to be manifested in the arts. The event will explore the questions of ways Art can be a transformative tool for liberation? How does art making and production heal our ancestors, ourselves, and the our future generations from the trauma that we have experienced?
