The University of California Institute for Research in the Arts supports embedded arts research through critical exchange

Artist Call- Freedom, Rebellion & Adventure

The San Benito County Arts Council and Blak Sage Gallery are currently accepting submissions for “Freedom, Rebellion and Adventure”, a biker-inspired art show from June 27th-July 20th, 2013.

Hollister, California, known as the “Birthplace of the American Biker” is bringing back the Hollister Rally on July 5-6th, which is expected to draw thousands of local and out-of-town motorcycle enthusiasts into downtown Hollister. This exhibition will commemorate the rebirth of the rally and highlight the images, art, objects and artifacts that are part of this rich American subculture.

Artists are encouraged to openly interpret the theme of freedom, rebellion & adventure in a range of media including, sculpture, painting, photography, mixed-media, printmaking, site specific installations, etc.

The exhibition will be displayed and promoted during the Hollister Biker Rally (July 5-6), the Saddle Horse Show Parade (June 27) and the annual HDA Street Festival and Car Show (July 20).

SUBMISSIONS

-Please submit an ARTIST STATEMENT with 1 paragraph explaining how your artwork relates to the theme of “Freedom, Rebellion & Adventure”, a BIOGRAPHY or RESUME with contact information and 3 JPEG WORK SAMPLES by email to info@sanbenitoarts.org
-Please include a $25.00 application fee. Application fees can be sent via PayPal to info@sanbenitoarts.org or by mail (check or money order payable to the SBC Arts Council) to SBCAC, PO Box 692, Hollister, CA 95024.
-Please note that our non-profit status prohibits us from promoting work that is overtly sexual, political or religious.
-The deadline for all submissions is June 7, 2013

REVIEW PROCESS

-All submissions will be reviewed by committee. Participating artists will be notified by June 14, 2013. The anticipated date for accepting artwork for installation is Saturday June 22, 2013.

-The San Benito County Arts Council’s mission is to promote the arts throughout San Benito County. Exhibitions, programs and events in partnership with the Blak Sage Gallery are made possible by funds from the California Arts Council and Community Foundation for San Benito County.
