Deadline: 04-22-2012

FASHIONABLY DRAWN: ILLUSTRATION & DRAWINGS ON LIFESTYLE & FASHION

Femme Cartel is curating an art show of gallery-quality illustration/drawings on fashion and/or personal style, especially in the girly/urban context. The art show will showcase 6 artists, each presenting ONE SET (4-8 pieces) of work on the theme. A wide variety of 2-D styles are sought, including those on paper, wood, canvas, etc…that use paint, markers, chalk, pen, pencil, etc…

As the art world begins to take more seriously the art of fashion illustration, Femme Cartel is launching a show to highlight the freshness and vitality of this art form. The show will also forefront the ways in which fashion can be a tool for self expression: a fun/smart/cheeky mode of portraying one’s unique lifestyle, values, and/or identity.

Femme Cartel is looking for artists with a series of high quality illustrations/drawings focused on fashion design and/or personal style. Bonus points for work that showcases individuals “outside the mainstream” such as tattoo girls, women of Color, plus size models, queer fashionistas, subculture styles (like rockabilly, punk, or hip hop)… and for playful/unique/edgy/cheeky images of powerful fashionistas living large and rocking their own unique styles.
