ARTIST CALL — Carnegie Arts Center
In Your Dreams
For Central Valley artists
The Carnegie Arts Center is presenting the exhibition, Joan Miró: Fantastic Universe from September 14, 2014 to January 11, 2015, in the Ferrari Gallery. To coincide with this exhibition, our Lobby Galleries will be featuring a juried exhibition titled In Your Dreams.
Joan Miró is one of the best known of the Surrealist artists. Much of Miró’s work reflects Surrealist roots– figments from his dreams, childhood memories, and sub-conscious. Miró delighted in the suggestive and symbolic qualities of his forms, allowing viewers to interpret meaning based on their own experiences. His compositions can be mythic and spiritual, offering some tangible, recognizable forms, but often appearing to be completely from another world. With his dreams, Miró created paintings, and he once said that in his paintings he created dreams. For this exhibition, we hope to show works that reflect the influence of dreams on the artist’s work. Entries can be rooted in realism or abstraction. Artists from throughout northern and central California are invited to enter works that are in some way based in dreams.
