Artist Call – Artists in Residence Program at UC Irvine Accepting Applications

Deadline: 05-31-2014

The Claire Trevor School of the Arts at the University of California, Irvine is now accepting applications to its Artists in Residence (AiR) Independent Study Program in Studio Art, which provides another avenue for college graduates of any major to pursue a career as an artist or curator.

The program has two distinct tracks:
- A 9-month Artist’s Track provides access to visiting artists at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts; studio space on the UC Irvine campus; guidance and direction in the creation of art; and a culminating group exhibition in the one of the University Art Galleries in July/August. A certificate is earned upon completion of the program.
- A 12-month Curatorial Track allows participants to conceptualize, select works, catalog and install the culminating exhibition. Participants earn a certificate upon completion of the individualized program.

The School’s Artists in Residence Program in Studio Art is aimed at helping participants create art and develop proficiency; get “back into the game” if they’ve been out of school for a while; develop a new body of work or curatorial project; transition from undergraduate art to MFA studies or to a career in art; transition from a non-arts career; explore another medium; interact with a vibrant community of artists; and acculturate international participants into the domestic or international arts scenes.

Each program is individually tailored to the interests and needs of the participant. Applications can be submitted online for the new session that begins in September 2014. The application deadline is May 31, 2014.
