The Sundance Institute has announced a three-year, $1 million general operating support grant from the Annenberg Foundation for its independent film and theatre artist programs.

The funds will help the institute advance its efforts to discover and develop independent artists and audiences through labs, grants, its #ArtistServices initiative, and public programs like the Sundance Film Festival. The funds also will help support the institute’s feature film, documentary, theater, film music, and Native American and indigenous artists programs through July 2015.

The foundation’s previous support for Sundance includes the Annenberg Film Fellows Program, which between 2004 and 2011 helped advance film projects by more than a hundred artists.

“We continue to be impressed with Sundance Institute’s role in supporting artists who have a transformative impact on our culture,” said Wallis Annenberg, chair, president, and CEO of the Annenberg Foundation. “We have long believed that the arts play a vital role in our communities and improve the public well-being by communicating unique perspectives, new practices, and universal themes. Sundance Institute proves this through its distinguished legacy and ability to promote innovation and creativity in independent film, theater communities, and industries in the U.S. and abroad.”
