An evening with Bajofondo at UC Los Angeles
Date: Friday, October 12, 2012, 8:00pm-10:00pm
Location: Royce Hall Auditorium, UC Los Angeles
Tickets: $20 – $50 ($15 UCLA Students)
The vibrant collective of composers, singers and artists known as Bajofondo represents an innovative blend of acoustic tango and electronic music, as well as a fusion of Latin alternative and contemporary sounds. Consisting of eight musicians from Argentina and Uruguay, the group is led by the brilliant Gustavo Santaolalla, two-time Academy Award and Golden Globe-winning composer of Brokeback Mountain and Babel, as well as the highly anticipated upcoming film On the Road. He is also the visionary producer of more than 100 records, from rock to rap and Bajofondo’s most recent album, Mar Dulce, which features such diverse vocalists as Julieta Venegas and Elvis Costello. The group’s unique form of tango is impulsive and explosive, combined with the repetition of electronic mastery, and The New York Times says “they tip the balance toward imperfect, immediate humanity, and their drama rubs off on the instrumentals too.”
