Celebrate the end of summer with a screening of short films on marine and coastal topics created by student filmmakers in the 2010 BLUE HORIZONS Summer Program for Environmental Media.
BLUE HORIZONS founders Michael Hanrahan & Constance Penley will host the event, which will screen films covering topics including a controversial program that allows sea otters to be relocated from their native habitat near Point Conception to the area around San Nicholas Island; Santa Barbara’s Mission Creek restoration project and its impact on native species such as steelhead trout; and a tribute to Jacques Cousteau, with scientists, fishermen, filmmakers, and others discussing how Cousteau influenced their lives and work.
More information about the screening and the Blue Horizons Program can be found at www.cftnm.ucsb.edu or http://www.ia.ucsb.edu/pa/display.aspx?pkey=2304.
The Blue Horizons Student Films Screening is supported by the Carsey-Wolf Center at UC Santa Barbara.
We are grateful to Sony Pictures Entertainment for its donation of equipment to support the Environmental Media Initiative’s Blue Horizons Program.
